Hey there, Cupcake! – Pig to Cute to Eat?

While I won’t be including him in the Most Beautiful Cupcake contest (or should I?) I just couldn’t imagine eating this cute little piggy from Hey there, Cupcake!:

Pig Cupcake

Hey there, Cupcake! is located in San Diego, California and I must say, they have a very skilled Fondant Worker. What do you think? Eat or save the pig cupcake? To me he just looks to cute and happy with his nose all scrunched up 🙂

All Things Cupcake – Megamind Mural

Cupcake Mural

Talk about skills and especially patience, take a look at this cupcake mural of Megamind created for Denver’s Rock N Roll Marathon:

Now this mural isn’t your ordinary 50 – 100 cupcake picture, no, it required a WHOPPING 1000 cupcakes to create, had to be done on an angle and constructed through the night outside in the cold!  It is certainly a test of endurance.

I couldn’t imagine trying to put together something like this, especially using 1000 cupcakes. The planning, I understand you could simply use graph paper or a heavily pixelated image, but it would still stress me out. (Read more)

Pink Cake Box – Amazing Peony Cupcakes & Upcoming Contest

Take a look at these peony cupcakes at Pink Cake Box, aren’t they gorgeous? What do you think should they be a contender in our most beautiful cupcake contest?

Pink Cake Box Peony Cupcakes

What is that you say? Contest? Why yes, you heard me right, we are having a contest! We are asking you dear readers to help us find a picture of the most beautiful cupcake. Submit links in the comment section or send us an email. Just be sure to include the source of the cupcake (we want to give everyone credit for their hard work). At the end of September we will open up voting for the top submissions. So come on cupcake fans, lets see what we can find 🙂

Most Beautiful Cupcake?

I have started a search for the most beautiful/skillfully made cupcake I can find. While I realize this is a purely subjective topic and I don’t expect that we would all be able to agree on one cupcake together, I would love to hear your opinions and see what cupcakes you think are the most beautiful and skillfully done.

My favorite is always changing as new cupcakes are created, but at this time I have to say that this flower pot cupcake by mrsmudrash (a user at Cake Central) is my favorite. It is just so beautiful, I don’t want to ruin it, but at the same time it looks and sounds so yummy I cannot wait to bite in.

This cake was inspired by the amazing Cupcake Envy cake designers. I LOVE their mini cakes and especially their flower pots. This was my first flower pot and first time ever making flowers! I did the ribbon roses because it was quicker! 🙂 I used brownies and choco ganache for the cake, then domed the top with cream cheese buttercream in order to have a base for the flowers to stick. The outside is modeling chocolate.

Artisan Cake Company – Gir Cupcake Toppers

If you are anything like me there is a good chance you have never heard of Invader Zim, a Nickelodeon TV show. According to Wikipedia:

The series revolves around an extraterrestrial named Zim from the planet Irk, and his ongoing mission to conquer and destroy a dark and satirical version of Earth. His various attempts to subjugate and destroy the human race are invariably undermined by some combination of his own ineptitude, his malfunctioning robot servant GIR, and his arch-nemesis Dib, one of very few humans attentive enough to be aware of Zim’s identity. If you are curious take a look at their Gir from Invander ZimWikipedia site

Now this here is Gir (learn more about Gir here). I don’t even need to watch the show and I know two things, he is super cute and he has great taste in desserts.

Now you may be wondering if I have never even heard of this show, let alone watch it, why am I bringing it up now… Well that is because of the amazing talents of the Artisan Cake Company. She has not only done a Gir cake (found here, with the tutorial on how to make it yourself). But she also made these amazing Gir cupcake toppers:

How can you not just fall in love with this little guy and of course, you have to be blown away by her amazing skills!

Wedding Cupcakes – Damask and Pink Cupcakes

And we are back with a lovely black and white damask cupcake tower with pink accents. This beautiful and elegant cake was featured at Wedding Cupcakes. It shows how you can keep your wedding cupcakes simple (just a simple vanilla frosting) but make them look royal with the right stand.

If you are a do-it-youselfer a stand like this would be quite easy to make in the months leading up to the wedding. Once the stand itself is built it can be painted or covered in fabric to match whatever theme you desire.

Bakingdom – Hogwarts Vertical Layer Cake

Harry Potter has come to a close and with it the end of a dynasty. I’ve never read the books but I’ve seen all the movies. It’s been a tradition of ours. This final installment was no different. Now that I have seen the movies it’s time to bust out the books and read for about 2 weeks straight. I’m not sure how to fit it all in but I’ll figure it out. When I found this and several other tributes to Harry Potter I was interested and thought I’d share them around. Hope you enjoy!

(T)oday’s treat, is dedicated to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I wanted to make Hogwarts a cake, but one that suited everything we’ve learned about the school. I made a delicious spice cake with cream cheese frosting (recipes below), keeping the outside rustic and homespun, just like I think they would serve it at Hogwarts. I covered the whole cake in a thick, fluffy, creamy buttercream and left it au natural, rather than smoothing everything down. Next, I created a banner with the first lines of the Hogwarts school anthem to drape across the top of the cake, as well as each of the four house banners. I love the way the cake looks, and I can easily picture it sitting amongst the amazing desserts and puddings in the Great Hall. But nothing at Hogwarts is what it seems, and this cake is no different. (Read more)

The Creative Cake Academy – Shares Their Amazing Skills

These designs feature embossing, stencilling and hand painting.

I recently stumbled upon The Creative Cake Academy, a Cupcake decorating school located at the Farncombe Estate, north west of London (England) just outside of Broadway. The lessons are all taught by expert Anne Myles:

The Creative Cake Academy offers a very modern day approach to Cake

Decoration and design, bustling with new ideas, all of which are firmly rooted in the trends of today… Our Cupcake workshops cover many themes including Creative Cupcakes, designed to be an overview of a ‘Dressed up Cupcake’ and leads onto other courses to include Vintage, Wedding designs, and a special range for Christmas.

You can take a look at their cupcakes on their Flickr account, found here. I have to say, if I ever find myself in their neck of the woods I definitely want to take a lesson.

Pink Cake Box – Amazing Wedding Cupcake Tower

Take a look at this amazing wedding cupcake tower done by Pink Cake Box. I absolutely love the colours, and cannot help but note this would have gone perfectly with a friends wedding a couple of years ago.

While it is not the ‘cupcake’ portion, I especially love the topper. The colour, the details and the white sugar roses. Read more about the cupcake tower here.

Sweetapolita – Fondant Asparagus

Sometimes when searching the Internet for ideas and inspiration I find something that is just mind blowing. Rosie over at Sweetapolita did an incredible cake that just blew me away. This Asparagus Cake is unbelievable. The commitment needed to see this project through to completion is enough to make this cake a highlight of a party. Each Asparagus spear is hand dyed, rolled, cuts, trimmed, decorated and shaded to garnish the cake. It probably became a full time job! Rosie made it with a delicious dark chocolate 8 layer cake with vanilla cream filling but I’ve also seen it done with a multi-layer carrot cake. Since it’s far outside the realm of something I would do for cupcakes I thought I’d share it with you. Check it out!
